Cenere (2025)

Program notes:

Cenere develops around the idea of a material that recomposes itself. Its focus lies in the way the sounds of the cello and piano interweave, creating zones where their identities blur until they become almost indistinguishable. The piece unfolds as a single sonic body built from micro-resonances, fragile attacks that brush against one another, and colours that migrate between the two instruments as if moving through a shared substance. This continuous shifting of roles forms the core of the work.

The title, Cenere, evokes fragments that rise, disperse, and settle again. The structure progresses through phases of density and rarefaction, a dynamic that stretches and redefines the material’s boundaries. What emerges is not a dialogue between two instruments, but a single timbral surface in transformation, shaped by interlocking gestures and gradual metamorphoses
